Why it matters

Therapeutic recreation supports the whole person.

Recreation is not a luxury — it is part of what helps people feel like themselves. Each session is gently designed to support mood, memory, mobility, and meaningful connection.

Lift mood & ease loneliness

Meaningful one-to-one connection helps reduce isolation, brighten the day, and bring back a steady, comforting routine.

Engage memory & attention

Conversation, music, reminiscence, games, and adapted cognitive activities keep the mind active in a relaxed, encouraging way.

Encourage gentle movement

Activities are tailored to seated or standing needs so movement always feels safe, achievable, and never intimidating.

Build genuine connection

From in-home visits to virtual group programs, the goal is belonging — confidence, conversation, and shared moments with like-minded peers.

How Janice helps

Two service pathways to support the older adult in your care.

Timeless Treasures is designed to help fill a gap for older adults who have little access to meaningful activities and social group options. Support can happen through intervention-based one-on-one services or through virtual group programs open to the general public, with assessment and care planning used only for intervention work.

One-on-One In-Home Visits

Intervention-based therapeutic recreation and social support delivered in the comfort of home. Assessment and care planning are used when the work is intervention-focused.

Virtual Group Programs

Friendly online sessions — Bingo with prizes, themed discussions, music, and trivia — for seniors who want connection with like-minded peers and something to look forward to, with no assessment required. Your first program is complimentary.

A simple path forward

Four gentle steps for one-on-one therapeutic recreation support.

For intervention-based one-on-one services, the process is paced to feel calm and clear. There is no commitment until you and the person in your care feel ready.

  1. 01

    Free consultation

A relaxed conversation for family members to share goals, ask questions, and see if the service is the right fit.

  2. 02

    Personal assessment

Janice gets to know interests, routines, and the activities that feel most meaningful.

  3. 03

    Tailored plan

A care plan shaped around the individual — session length, frequency, and setting.

  4. 04

    Ongoing sessions

Visits and programs reviewed over time so support keeps evolving with the person.

Recreation is not a luxury — it is part of what helps people feel like themselves again. Every session is a chance to bring back a moment of joy, a familiar song, or a quiet conversation that matters.

Common questions

What families ask before getting started.

Who is therapeutic recreation for?
It is ideal for families looking for more social connection, meaningful routine, and gentle engagement for an older adult in their care. It is especially helpful when a senior is experiencing isolation, mild cognitive change, or would benefit from something enjoyable to look forward to each week.
Do you visit homes, or is this only virtual?
Both. Janice offers one-on-one in-home visits across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and surrounding areas, and virtual group programs that seniors can join from home. One-on-one intervention support may include consultation, assessment, and care planning, while virtual group programs do not require an assessment.
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are shaped around the individual — they may include conversation, music and reminiscence, gentle movement, cognitive games, themed discussions, or support accessing community recreation when it feels appropriate. Length and pace are adapted to comfort, energy, interests, and strengths.
Can family members reach out on behalf of a parent?
Absolutely. Many first conversations are with adult children exploring options for a parent. Janice will walk you through what support might look like and the gentle next steps from there.
What credentials does Janice hold?
Janice is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and Registered with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (R/TRO). She is professionally insured and cleared with Waterloo Region Vulnerable Sector screening.
How does pricing work?
One-on-one sessions are available in 30, 45, and 60-minute formats, with bundled rates that lower the per-session price. Intervention-based support will begin with a free consultation, then an assessment, while virtual group programs are priced separately, do not require an assessment, and include a complimentary first program. A full breakdown is on the Services & Pricing page.
